Welcome to Camerapedia.org, a free-content encyclopedia of camera information. The goal of this site is to be a repository for information and links to information about all still camera brands and models. You know your camera equipment better than anyone. Introduction to Cameras

A camera is just a means to an end; a tool for producing photographs. That's easy to say but for some it is like saying to a car enthusiast that a Ferrari is just a means of getting from point A to point B. It is not uncommon for a craftsman to fall in love with his tools but photographers seem particularly susceptible to camera lust. A little understanding of how the camera as a tool works will help with its selection, care and operation.

How to Find a Camera Here

First is an alphabetical list of camera makers. The better-known ones are in bold. When the name of a camera model is better known than the maker's name, it follows in parentheses. This can be confusing, as sometimes the name of a well-known camera is not the same as the maker of that camera (for instance, the Pentax, made by Asahi Optical Co.). If you don't find what you're looking for in the list of makers, use the Cameras by Model index below.

Next there is an alphabetical index, to find cameras by the first letter of their model name. You can use it to locate the specific camera you're looking for.

In this list of camera manuracturers, the better-known ones are in bold. When the name of a model is better known than the maker's name, it is mentioned in parentheses. You can add any maker you know of, but please check first that it is not already in the list.
