The Canon 300D, Digital Rebel or Kiss Digital (Europe/America/Japan markets names) was the first affordable DSLR - or at least the first under the $1,000 mark announced in 2003. It was build on the Canon EOS 10D structure, but with a simpler firmware (problem partly addressed thanks to some enterprising Russian, see below) and lighter build quality using plastic instead of magnesium alloy. The majority of cameras released were in a silver finish, but a black edition was made available late in 2004 only a few months before the updated Canon EOS 350D was made available in 2005.
It uses a 6 megapixel 22.7 x 15.1 mm CMOS based imaging sensor. This produces images of up to 3,072 x 2,048 resolution. Photos can be recorded in Jpeg or Raw+jpeg modes. Up to 4fps can be shot in continuous mode. It uses CF cards for media storage, and is also compatible with microdrive. The viewfinder has a 95% frame coverage with a 0.88x magnification. A dipoter feature is available to adjust from -3.0 to +1.0. The display on the back uses a 1.8" color TFT LCD with 118,000 pixels. For computer connectivity it uses USB interface. Powered by BP-511 rechargeable battery.
