The Canon EOS 7D is a mid-range digital SLR (DSLR) camera with Canon-designed 18-Megapixel APS-C size CMOS sensor. Canon announced the 7D on 1 September 2009. It has a rather long life in the consumer DSLR marketplace, still available after 4 years (10.2013), most similar cameras usually get replaced in 2 or 3 years.

The camera firmware was surprisingly updated in 2012 three years after launch. It provided a few improvements such as the shooting buffer from 15 to 25 Raws, adjustable maximum Auto ISO, movie mode audio level adjustment, Jpeg re-sizing, and compatibility with the GP-E2 GPS module.
