The EOS 1000D is a DSLR camera and was announced by Canon on 10 June 2008[1]. It was also known as the Rebel XS in the US, and Kiss F in Japan. The 1000D was available as a body only, packaged with a 18-55 f3.5-5.6 lens, or with a twin lens pack with either a 55-200mm or 75-300mm.
It uses a 10 megapixel CMOS sensor, which can produce photos of 3888 x 2592 in JPEG (fine, normal), Raw (.CR2), or RAW+JPG (fine) formats. The auto focus has a 7 point design with a central cross type. Shooting modes include, auto, program, shutter priority, aperture priority, manual, depth of field AE, with scenes modes for portrait, landscape, close-up, sports, night portrait and a flash off mode. The metering system is based on a TTL 35-zone silicon photocell with a metering range of 1 to 20 EV (ISO 100, 50 mm f/1.4). There are several modes including evaluative 35-zone, partial 9% at center and a center-weighted average mode. Exposure can be compensated - 2 to +2 EV in 1/2 or 1/3 EV increments.
The shutter is based on a focal-plane shutter design with speeds of 30 to 1/4000 sec with a Bulb mode and a flash sync of 1/200 sec. The finder is a penta mirror design with 95% frame coverage and a magnification of 0.81x. There is also a diopter adjustment from -3.0 to +1.0. The color LCD monitor is 2.5" and has 230,000 pixels. It uses SDHC compatible SD cards for media storage. Power is from a rechargeable 7.4V, 1050 mAh LP-EP5 battery.
