The Canon EOS 5D was released in October, 2005. It's the world's smallest, lightest full-frame digital SLR camera. It features a 9-point autofocus with 6 invisible points, a large 2.5-inch high-resolution TFT LCD, and USB 2.0. The most impressive feature, is the enormous 12.8 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor which measures 24mm x 36mm, the same size as a 35mm negative.

The Canon EOS 5D was released in October, 2005. It was the world's smallest, lightest full-frame digital SLR camera, not much bigger than, as slim as and even a little lighter than the APS-C model Canon EOS 30D of 2004. The EOS 5D features a 9-point autofocus with 6 invisible support points, a large 2.5-inch high-resolution TFT LCD, an additional LCD on camera top as status display, and USB 2.0. Its most impressive feature is the enormous 12.8 megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor which measures 24mm x 36mm, the same size as a 35mm negative.

The 5D featured a new, rugged focal plane shutter rated for 100,000 shots. The vertically travelling shutter will reliably deliver up to 60 frames at 3 frames per second with the "JPG high quality" setting.

The camera takes CF cards or microdrives as image storage devices.

It was replaced in 2008 with the Canon EOS 5D Mark II.

Used 5D

Today (year 2023) used working Canon EOS 5D DSLR bodies are sometimes available for less than 200 €uro. Of course they are 18 years old and not every vendor can tell you the number of shutter actuations of the individual item. But if you're lucky that's almost the cheapest possible entry into full-frame digital photography.
