The PowerShot G10 was the 2008 successor to the G7, G9, etc. in the "G" series from Canon—all intended as "serious" models, for the more involved digital photographer. The G10 represents something of an oddity, as its 14 Mp sensor was the high-water mark within the G series in chasing higher megapixel counts: The followup PowerShot G11 and G12 scaled this back to 10 Mp, in the interest of improved high-ISO performance.
Like other G models, the G10 featured a stoutly-built metal body with "tradtionalist" touches such as knurled metal control dials and a rangefinderesque optical viewfinder. Compared with the G9, the G10 altered the lens zoom range to add more wide-angle coverage, losing some telephoto reach in the process. The G10 also adds a dedicated exposure override control on the top panel, moving the ISO adjustment beneath the mode dial, wedding-cake style.
