This camera is distinct from the Canon PowerShot S100 introduced in 2000, as the original model in Canon's Digital Elph/IXUS series.

The S100 is an "enthusiast" compact digital camera introduced by Canon in 2011, succeeding the similar Canon PowerShot S95. It shares the same body design, display, and control ring around the lens. New features include the following:

  • Greater 5x zoom range (with some compromise of lens speed)
  • 12 Mp CMOS sensor replaces earlier 10 Mp CCD
  • 1080p video recording
  • GPS receiver
  • 3-stop neutral density filter (helps avoid small lens apertures which would cause diffraction)
