This camera should not be confused with the 2011 PowerShot S100, which has a black body, 5x zoom, and 12 Mp sensor.

The Canon PowerShot S100 was released in 2000. Is is known as the Digital IXUS in Europe and most worldwide locations. It was also called IXY Digital in Japan.

It was Canon's first "digital ELPH", a tiny, stylish 2MP point and shoot with a sharp 35-70/2.8-4.0 (35mm equivalent) lens which uses Compact Flash storage cards. It took its "ELPH" name and case styling from Canon's series of compact cameras using APS film.

At the time of its introduction, it was one of the smallest digital cameras available; and its successful series continued through numerous later models (the S200, S230, etc.)
