The Star is a Japanese plate folder in tefuda (8×10.5cm) size, made and sold by Ueda Shashinki-ten around 1911.[1]
The Star is a vertical folder with a wooden body. The front standard seems to allow vertical and horizontal movements, and is focused by a small wheel on the photographer's right. There is a brilliant finder offset to the left and a leather handle at the top. An oval nameplate is attached to the left side of the body.
The example pictured in Sugiyama reportedly has a Bausch & Lomb shutter (1–100, B, T) and an Aldis Anastigmat f/7.7 lens.[2]
Lewis also mentions a Star plate folder patterned after the Goerz Manufoc-Tenax, and a less expensive Star Poco.[3]
