The Atom Hayatori Shashinki (アトム早取写真機, meaning Atom-size fast picture-taking camera) is a Japanese box camera taking 4.5×6cm[1] plates or a film pack, sold by Ōsaka Shashinki Shōkai on mail order.

The camera is only known from a single advertisement.[2] The drawing shows a very simple box camera, with a handle at the top, a simple shutter and an attached cable release; no viewfinder is visible. It was available in four versions: A (¥3), B (¥4), C (¥5) and Special (特上品, ¥8½ and ¥10). It was also offered for film plates only, without the ability to take film packs, for ¥1 less. The camera was supplied with chemicals, a manual and a dozen film.[3]

Notes

  1. The 4.5×6cm picture format is only inferred from the name atom, and is not explicitly confirmed by the original document observed so far.
  2. Advertisement reproduced in Morishita, p.70 of Kurashikku Kamera Senka no.22.
  3. The text reads as follows: "使用具薬品独習書フィルム一打付".
