I have some doubts regarding the pre-war Picolette supposedly made by Nettel in Sontheim. McKeown's latest edition is given as a reference (which I don't have), but in a previous edition the picolette is only listed under Contessa-Nettel made from 1919.

If you look for any other reference, like pictures from auctions or old ads you'll find nothing. Before the merger with Contessa Nettel had a portfolio of plate cameras (like the Deckrullo) but no experience with rollfilm. In contrast Contessa (Stuttgart) had the PIXIE (1912-1914 ?) in its portfolio, a camera with a very similar spec as the Picolette...

Did anybody has further information or prove for the pre-war Nettel Picolette...? If not I'd suggest to remove the section in the article or at least put a remark about the doubts in there...

Serial numbers

Here are some data I have collected. Am cleaning up and deleting files of stuff I no longer am interested in. Thought I share/archive here…

Unlike the number on the film carrier, which seems stamped/punched in, the body serial number of the Piccolette was engraved, but in a very fine and shallow fashion. Even limited corrosion seems to have obliterated part or all of the serial number on a great number of cameras. The last three digits of the serial number are repeated and punched into the reinforcement bar of the film carrier.

Pre-war Nettel Picolette

Thanks Christoph
