The MVC-FD87 was one of the Mavica series of early digital cameras from Sony, announced at the February, 2001, PMA show alongside the MVC-FD75, MVC-FD92, and MVC-FD97[1]. This model continued the early Mavica practice of using standard 3.5" computer floppy disks for image storage. However at the maximum possible image resolution of 1280×960 pixels, only approximately six images could be stored on a 1.4 MB floppy. Accordingly, a MSC-FD2M/FD2MA "dummy floppy" adapter for Memory Stick cards could be used to expand storage capacity.
