The RC series started in the late 1980's with the ION, XAPShot and Q-Pic line of CCD still video cameras with the RC-250.

The RC camera series for interchangeable lenses was Canon's answer on Sony's Mavica series. Both camera series used floppy disks as image storage medium, but Canon used a non-standard smaller kind of floppies, the video floppy disks.

Sony manufactured Video Floppy disk for the original Mavica line of CCD still video cameras in the early 1980's. They were not common on computers, but were often used in broadcasting and medical fields for video still storage.
