The high-end RC-760, accepting interchangeable lenses, launched in 1988 as one of Canon's RC series of CCD still video cameras, which had begun with the Canon RC-701. The series was soon joined by the RC-250, (named ION, XAP Shot and Q-Pic in different markets).
The series was Canon's answer to Sony's Mavica series. Several SVC's used floppy disks as image storage medium (including Nikon's QV-1000C, but a non-standard smaller kind of floppies, video floppy disks which stored video scan lines in analog form.
Sony manufactured Video Floppy disks for the original Mavica line of CCD still video cameras in the early 1980's. They were not common on computers, but were often used in broadcasting and medical fields for video still storage.
