Revision as of 00:51, 28 November 2013

Canon's G series of enthusiast digital compacts continued with the 2007 introduction of the G9. The headline features were a 6x zoom range and a new 12-megapixel sensor. After Canon omitted RAW capture in the Powershot G7, it returned in the G9 (there was no G8). This helped restore the camera's positioning as a "serious" compact, for more knowledgeable photographers not wishing to lug around a full-blown DSLR. Other enthusiast features include a standard Canon system flash hot shoe, as well as traditionalist knurled dials for mode and ISO setting. As with other G models, the ring around the lens could be replaced with an accessory lens barrel for wide-angle or telephoto adapters, etc.

The G9 was followed by the PowerShot G10.
