The Canon EOS 1D Mark II was the company's second iteration of its "flagship" professional-level DSLR, introduced in 2004. It followed the same body style as the original EOS 1D, a large camera with an integral bottom grip and 1.3x crop-factor sensor. However its resolution was doubled, to 8 megapixels. In keeping with the Pro orientation, the body allows burst shooting at more than 8 frames a second, and a buffer holding up to 40 JPEGs. Only the 2" diag. rear LCD seems underwhelming by later standards.

The same "1D" form factor has continued its evolution up until the present (2011), with the Canon EOS 1D Mark IV.
