A bit of documentation, please!

Please see Microcord, which I've just reformatted. There are two images. I've used the template in one way for the one, in the other for the other, so at least one is bound to be wrong.

Rightness or wrongness aside, at least {{Image author|John Hughes|boscoppa}} has a result that looks OK within the page. This can't be said for {{Image author|boscoppa|John Hughes}}.

Well, is the order pseudonym then (apparently) real name, or vice versa? And whichever way around it is, what's the best thing to do with spaces within what one wants to put in the second field? -- Hoarier 00:13, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

If you prefer to have a link to the Flickr gallery rather than the "Image by" category, the order is {{Image author|John Hughes|boscoppa}}, with the real name or pseudonym in the first field, and the last portion of the Flickr URL in the second field. This second field should not contain a space (because it's the URL chosen by the Flickr user, not a name or pseudonym). --NihonCamera 00:39, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
Ah, I understand now (or I think that I do). Thank you. -- Hoarier 01:14, 5 May 2011 (PDT)
To expand a little bit: When someone opens a Flickr account, the default URL to their photostream takes an alphanumerical form, like:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/35960028@N03/. Each Flickr member gets one chance to switch this to some human-readable form (e.g. mine is
http://www.flickr.com/photos/vox/—the numerical form continues to work too, however).
The account I gave in my first example belongs to (real name) Hubertus Bendi; but his Flickr screen name (seen in page headers, comments, etc.) is benbleck—at least, this week it is.
Thus the image-author template for Hubertus could be filled as {{image author|Hubertus Bendi|35960028@N03}}, giving Hubertus Bendi.
However I am not sure the Flickrstream link is really a desirable feature, compared to linking to our own image-by category page. The latter option gives two additional features: A list of all the wiki pages using their images, and a link to all the images they have contributed to the Camera-wiki Flickr pool (typically meaning, lots more photos of camera gear not necessarily appearing in wiki articles). I suppose there could be few weird cases where a photographer provides one of us an image, but it is hosted in one of our accounts rather than their own Flickr stream. --Vox 09:19, 5 May 2011 (PDT)

Preferred Usage

I'm putting this into its own topic, so my comment above won't be overlooked.

I think it's preferable to omit the Flickr link from this template. If we link only to our own image-by category page, this adds two useful features: The list of wiki articles with images by that photographer; and a link to all the photographer's other pool contributions (whether used in the wiki or not).

As always, please consult the existing image-by categories to check whether a photographer is already "in the system" and what variant of their name is used. Using the photographer's real name, capitalized normally, seems like the most reliable and professional way of attributing photos; but we can accommodate people who have stated a preference to use a different name. --Vox 09:20, 24 November 2011 (PST)
