The Ruby Speed Camera is a straightforward copy of the Ermanox, made by Thornton-Pickard in about 1926. It is the only English 'night camera' of its time. It is wooden-bodied, with brown-black leather covering. It has a Taylor-Hobson 3-inch f/2 Cooke Anastigmat Series O in a helical focusing mount, and a focal-plane shutter giving speeds 1/10 - 1/1000 second, with a single adjustment (the Ermanox adjusts both slit-width and spring tension). It has a folding Newton finder on top. The close grouping of the serial numbers of the examples seen at auction might suggest that very few of these cameras were made.
