Chinon DSL
Distinctive black nameplate image by Steve Green (Image rights) |
Digital SLR cameras did not exist when Chinon gave the designation DSL to this K-mount camera for 35mm film. This is a no-frills, manual-exposure model which is modest in size and weight. Spec for spec it is a sister to the Chinon CM-4s, but where that model was mostly sold in black, the DSL has a distinctive style with a black nameplate contrasting against its silver top.
The Seiko MFC metal focal plane shutter offers speeds from 1 to 1/1000 seconds with flash sync at 1/60th. This is pretty standard stuff (matching a Pentax K1000) if a step behind Chinon's own CM-7 and that camera's many Cosina-built siblings using a Copal shutter. Two LR44 or SR44 1.5v batteries provide power for a 3-LED exposure-meter display (under-correct-over). Unusually, these light up outside the viewfinder eyepiece in the user's peripheral vision. There is also a self-timer.
