date query

McKeown (1990-91 ed.) gives different dates- "founded 1936" and "Added amateur cameras 1954-65". Given that this is an American source, could there be a more local source of the dates on the page?

How to move pages

Paul, please use the "move" link at the top of the page when you want to change its title. (See Help: Tips and tricks). Simply deleting the contents and pasting it elsewhere does not preserve the page history.

Moreover, I'm not enthisiastic at double titles like AGI (Agilux). I think we should settle for one of either AGI or Agilux and make the other a redirect. This is for people using the search box to find the page more easily.

Apologies

It may be absolutely obvious now, but I hadn't noticed that tab before!

I just got a bit confused - I added the "Agilux" and "whoosh" was taken to a new page which was not what I expected. Reacting through sheer ignorance (sorry) I just cut and pasted!

I agree about the double titles. AGI is the correct name of the parent company. This is the name every one knows. However the camera Had a "Agilux" made in England badge on them.I have now deleted AGI and substitute Agilux. I have also re-tiled Agimatic, "Agimatic & Agima" which reflects the contens of the page better

The meaning of a redirect

In the context of a wiki site, a "redirect" is not simply a page with a short description redirecting the reader to another page via a link. It is a blank page containing only the following syntax: #redirect [[other_page]]. If the reader types the name of the redirected page in the search box, the site will automatically point him to the "other_page".

I modified the AGI page accordingly. However, in the short description that was there, I read "Aeronautical and General Instruments - Purley, UK" while I'm reading here that it is in Croydon. Does it make a difference?

Purley is an area of Croydon

Thank you; I guessed it was something like that but wanted to be sure. --Rebollo fr 16:12, 8 September 2006 (EDT)
