In 2010 Sony presented an alternate conception for sophisticated digital system cameras, the SLT concept with EVF which is optimized for video shooting with continuous autofocus. The Sony α55 with APS-C format 16 megapixel image sensor is the amateur model. Alike all Sony SLTs the α55 has a Minolta AF lens bayonet which Sony already had used for its DSLRs of the Sony α system. The Sony Alpha DSLR-A580 with similar sensor was introduced in the same year and seems to be the last of Sony's DSLRs. The pellicle for the SLT's continuous phase detection autofocus leads 30% of the incoming light onto the focus-measuring module in the camera top. Thus the α55 has a slight disadvantage in technically measurable values like image dynamics and noise compared to its DSLR-brother. Therefore it is easier to deliver a 100% viewfinder image by means of the electronic viewfinder.
