Revision as of 18:31, 20 May 2011

Nikon's entry level Digital Single Lens Reflex camera which has a 6.1 MP CCD sensor similar to that used in the Nikon D70 and D70s. Introduced in Spring 2005. It weighs approximately 540g and is 133x102x76mm in dimension. It has familiar programmed auto, shutter priority auto, aperture priority auto and manual modes, with landscape, sports, night portrait, portrait, child and close up preset modes, described by Nikon as "Digital Vari-Programs". There is a built-in flash, AF illuminator and continuous shooting up to 2.5 frames per second. Auto shutter speeds of 30 seconds to 1/4000 second are featured, with ISO sensitivities of 200 to 1600. All Nikon AF lenses or those with Central Processing Unit contacts may be used with a 1.5 crop factor on lenses not intended for digital use. Images are recorded on an SD card only, battery is Nikon's EN-EL3a Lithium-ion type. RAW shooting in Nikon Electronic Format is available as well as conventional jpg image format. This camera appears to have been released to compete with popular cameras such as Canon's Digital Rebel. (sources for above; Nikon literature).
