Microdrive is a hard drive based on a 1" platter design. This was small enough to fit on to a CompactFlash Type II card. In the late 1990's this was popular because it had higher capacity and lower price per MB than competing Flash memory technology. As Compact flash capacity increased and prices kept getting lowered, the advantages of microdrives disappeared.


Size capacity include 170MB, 340MB, 512MB, 1GB, 2GB, 2.5GB, 3GB, 4GB, 5GB, 6GB and 8GB.
