Ducati film cassettes and loader image by Peter Kitchingman (Image rights) |
The Simplex is a half-frame 35 mm viewfinder camera made by Ducati in about 1950; McKeown notes uncertainty about the exact date.[1] The camera makes fifteen 18x24 mm pictures on 35 mm film in special cassettes (as illustrated here, with a loader).[2] The camera has a focal-plane shutter with speeds 1/25 to 1/250 second, plus 'B' (and perhaps in some examples to 1/500; McKeown gives this range[1]). The shutter is not synchronised for flash. The release button is on the front of the camera, on the left of the lens; convenient for the right index finger when taking horizontally-oriented pictures. There is a frame counter around the winding knob (on the left of the camera).
The lens is a fixed, uncoated, collapsible 35 mm f/3.5 Etar, with helical focus to one metre.
