The PowerShot A590 IS is a compact digital camera which was introduced by Canon in early 2008, with a 8 megapixel CCD sensor. This produces images of 3264 x 2448. The 4x zoom lens is a 35mm equivalent focal range of 35-140mm f/2.6 to f/5.5. There is image stabilization making it easier to steady the shot while zoomed in. The focus distance in normal mode is from 45cm but in macro mode is goes down to 5cm. The built-in flash has a range of up to 3.5m. There are two viewing systems available, a optical zooming viewfinder along with the 115,000 pixel 2.5 inch LCD. It uses SDHC / MMC cards. Power comes from two AA batteries. Connectivity is via High Speed USB.
