The Canon FD 50mm f/1.8 was the default "normal" lens on Canon FD systems. While its more expensive alternative, the Canon FD 50mm f/1.4 set the standard for image quality in the FD system, the f/1.8 was a very capable lens.

Owing to their high quality and low cost, and their good performance in low light, there were more of them sold than any other Canon FD lens. Now there are so many out there that a Canon FD 50mm f/1.8, in excellent condition, can be had these days very cheaply (eBay).
