History

Ernst & Wilhelm Bertram, also known by their brand name Bewi, is a German light meter manufacturing company.

The company was started in 1919 by Ludwig Leiner and Ernst Bertram with a workshop to make camera shutters. When Ludwig Leiner left, Paul Will took over and shifted to the manufacture of light meters. In the 1940's, Ernst's brother Wilhelm Bertram joined the company. Later Ernst Rumpoldin came to the company from Linhof, and helped develop an unusual press camera, called Bertram Kamera, released in 1951.
