I had been playing with Media wiki software and thinking that it would be cool to setup a camera wiki. So I searched google to see if one already exists and I came accross this page. Obviously still pretty rough. It looks like this is associated with photoblogs. Personally I have no interest in photoblogs, but I do have an interest in different types of cameras. (I personally own about 15).

I have a few questions/suggestions:

  1. Please setup a discussion page.
  2. Is it ok to upload pictures?
  3. Is it intended to include more than just links in the camera pages. I would like to include some basic information about each camera.
  4. I suggest that a few cameras be chosen and people create model entries for those cameras, and then when more cameras are added those model entries can be referred to, to decide what to include. -- Webgeer 14:01, 30 Nov 2004 (EST)

In answer to your comments: yes it is still very rough. It started out as a simple list of camera models for an undetermined use at photoblogs.org. It was splintered off to it's own domain; photoblogs has its own wiki for photoblog subjects at [wiki.photoblogs.org]. You need have no interest in photoblogs to contribute to camerapedia - just an interest in cameras.

  1. In this wiki implementation every page has a discussion page associated with it. We can use the discussion page off the main page for general things and those associated with specific pages for more granular subjects. Is there something beyond what these discussion pages offer thatyou'd like to see?
  2. Uploading files has not been enabled yet but it will be soon. When you do upload images you cannot upload images that you haven't taken or have permission to use - we cannot steal pictures from other sites so we must create our own.
  3. It can include whatever you want. Some specifications would be good, a short description would be even better.
  4. This is a good idea. Currently we don't have a perfect entry. I think it would be a combination of something like the way the links are organized in the Canon EOS 300D Digital Rebel page, with specifications added as you suggetsed and a short description similar to Nikon F. Later an image taken or owned by an author here would be great.
