はじめまして、rebollo_frことのレボロと申します。

貴重な「Midg」の写真へのリンクも加筆して、寺崎様の立派なサイトからCamerapediaへのリンクもくださって本当に有難うございました。

「ミズ手提暗函」というのは復刻した1911年12月の小西本店の目録に見たことがありますが、この目録のページは寺崎様のサイトに転載したページと同じなのです。その資料から、小西本店が自社製造したカメラとかブッチャー社から輸入したカメラとか疑問がありますが、本機や他の資料などにはその問題を解決できることがご存知ですか。

Camerapediaに加筆してくださって有難うございます。宜しくお願い致します。

Thank you for the link you added to the picture of the Midg, a precious document, and thank you for adding a link to Camerapedia from your extraordinary website.

I have seen the "Midg Hand Camera" in a reproduction of a Konishi Honten catalogue dated December 1911; this catalogue entry is the same as reproduced in your own page on the Midg. From this document, I was unable to tell if the camera was made by the Konishi Honten company itself, or if it was imported from Butcher. Are you aware of other documents or of something on the camera itself that helps to solve this problem?

レボロ様 こんにちは寺崎です。 小西本店はミズ、上田写真機店ではミッグと記しているMidgらしきカメラがヤフーオークションに1週間ほど前に出品されたので落札しました。届いて見ると、一緒に送られてきた他のカメラのカバンの中には昭和10年～20年代の日本の写真が入っていて、このカメラは日本人が使っていたものと想定されます。midgカメラであるかサイトで調べたところ、後部分にPATENTと言う字が記されたアルミニュームの蓋が付いていて、ブッチャー社のmidgカメラと同じであることがわかりました。このmidgカメラは 表蓋を開けるとホゾ組の細かな細工で組まれていて、作行きからいかにも日本の指物師の暗箱を見るように感じますが、このような内部を写した写真をサイトで探しても 見つかりません。私はこのmidgカメラは小西本店（浅沼商店、上田写真機店にも兼職していた）のかかえていた指物師が暗箱をつくりブッチャー社の金具、部品を取り付けて販売したと現在考えています。当時の小西本店の暗箱やboxカメラは皆手本があり このmidgも手本を基に指物師が前蓋を開けた場所に腕をふるった暗箱と見えます。 入手したこのカメラは明治末の製造とは考えられず、新しいもののようにも見えます。よくわからないカメラです。ご教示くだされば幸いです。

It is hello Terasaki of Rebolo. Because a camera like ミッグ and Midg which I wrote down was exhibited at Yahoo Auctions in Ms., the Ueda camera shop approximately 1 week ago, the Konishi head office made a bid for it. A Japanese photograph of from 1935 to 20's enters, and it is assumed that a Japanese used this camera in the bag of the other cameras which have been sent together when I arrive. A rear share was accompanied by a cover of the aluminum which PATENT and a character to say were written down when I examined it in a site whether it was a midg camera and understood the thing that was the same as a midg camera of Butcher Corporation. This midg camera is crossed by the small work of the Class ホゾ when I open a list lid and feels it to watch the camera of the quite Japanese cabinetmaker from product going, but is not found even if I look for the photograph which I copied such inside into in a site. When the cabinetmaker whom the Konishi head office (I held an additional position in an Asanuma store, Ueda camera shop) had makes a camera, and I can possess it, and this midg camera sold metal fittings of Butcher Corporation, a part as for me, I think now. All the camera and the box cameras of the then Konishi head office have a copybook, and a cabinetmaker is seen in this midg with the camera which showed an arm in the place that was able to open a previous cover based on a copybook. I obtain it, and the camera of the kite is not regarded as the production of the end of Meiji and is seen like the new thing. It is the camera which it does not understand well. I am happy if I instruct it.

こんにちは、レボロです。御返事有難うございます。寺崎様のサイトにも上田写真機店目録の引用を拝見しました。

今日は他の資料も探してみて、butkus.orgというウエブサイトにそのページに「Butcher」社の「Midg」の英文の広告を見つけました。その資料の437頁には価格表があって0号、00号、1A号、1号、2号、3号、4号が掲載されています。その資料の492・493ページには他の広告があって多くの「Midg」の機種が見えて、その機種はすべて形が違っています。機種番号は小西本店目録と比べてほぼ同じなのです。小西本店がすべての機種を製造したことはむりはありませんかと考えて、そのより輸入したようですが、感想の限りでよく分りません。そして小西本店が製造したカメラのすべては「Cherry」や「Champion」など手本から別の商品名があって、「Midg」だけが手本と同じ商品名をしたことは異常なようです。それにも、小西本店がブッチャー社の部品から「Midg」を製造した可能性がなるほどです。

ある本ではちょっと他の資料が見つかってメールでお送りします。宜しくお願い致します。

Hello and thank you for your answer. I have also seen the extract of the Ueda catalogue on your website.

Today I looked for documents, and found English advertisements for the Butcher Midg looking at this page at butkus.org. On p.437 of this document you will find a price list with the No.0, No.00, No.1A, No.1, No.2, No.3 and No.4. On pp.492–3 of this document you will find other advertisements for the Midg, showing many versions, which differ very much in the body shape. The model numbers are almost the same as in the Konishi Honten catalogue. I think that Konishi Honten could not have made all these versions, and that these were imported cameras instead, but this is merely a guess. I also noticed that the cameras made by Konishi Honten have different names than the models they copy (such as "Cherry" or "Champion"), and I find it strange that the "Midg" alone would have been sold under the same name. However, as you rightly say, there is a possibility that Konishi Honten made Midg cameras from parts sent by the Butcher company.

小西本店製パールコダックには葉書判があり、パール葉書判の最初の型はパールコダック葉書判であると判明しました。 http://www2f.biglobe.ne.jp/~ter-1212/sakura/pearl.htm 　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　寺崎晴久

寺崎様、

貴重な資料に有難うございました。パールコダックという商品名はいろいろな発売元に用いられて、葉書判も売られたことが明らかになりました。商品名は小西本店にも用いられたかまだ不明なのです。そして葉書判について「写真とともに百年」にはスペシャルパールが手札・葉書判として1913年に発売されたと書いてありますが、よくわかりません。寺崎様の1914年8月の目録は葉書判パールの一番古い記載に違いないでしょう。1914年11月写真月報の広告は「パール三号端書形カメラ」が書いてありますが、イラストはパール四号のように蛇腹2段伸ばしのカメラなので不思議です。結局明治・大正のパールの変遷を追跡することは難しいでしょう。

御指摘の新しい資料を反映して[Pearl (for plates and rollfilm)]というページを訂正・加筆致しました。どうぞ宜しくお願い致します。
