35mm film in a 6×6 TLR
"Novelty aside, the purpose of using 35mm in a 6x6 format TLR is unclear. It seems that you get all the disadvantages of the TLR format (parallax, reversed viewfinder for framing, slow use) without the number-one advantage of the format, the huge film size."
Medium format colour photography has never been easy for an amateur. The 6×6 colour slides need an expensive medium format projector, and medium format colour negatives are difficult to buy and expensive to process. I think that this is the reason why some late TLRs added the ability to take 35mm film. You could use the full 6×6 format for black and white photography, and occasionnally take some 35mm color slides. I think that the same explanation stands fot the 4×4 TLRs, because 4×4 slides (nicknamed superslides) could fit in a normal 35mm projector, so a 4×4 camera was well adapted for colour photography. --Rebollo fr 07:12, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
- Agreed. As for 127 TLRs, they also seem to have been marketed to women to a considerable extent, which helps explain their pastel paintwork, etc. -- Hoary 10:07, 24 May 2006 (EDT)
