Vocabulary help needed

I am speaking of "depth-of-field knob" to describe a round depth-of-field scale, with the distances engraved on a rotating rim and the aperture range engraved in the center, like on this Waltax Senior. --Rebollo fr 12:23, 22 June 2006 (EDT)

Even in this, I can't see what you're referring to, but from your description and my experience I'd say it's a depth-of-field scale. -- Hoary 16:39, 22 June 2006 (EDT)
Sorry, I meant this picture. It is the thing on the right, that looks like a knob and is turned like a knob, but acts like a depth-of-field scale. --Rebollo fr 18:45, 22 June 2006 (EDT)
Well well. A separate depth-of-field scale, perhaps? You're right, it is a depth-of-field knob; but saying this might give the impression that by turning it the photographer can somehow adjust the depth of field. Hoary 19:06, 22 June 2006 (EDT)
I understand. Maybe "circular depth-of-field scale" is OK? The same device is visible on Nagel or early Retina cameras, I will have a look at English pages on the subject, to see how they describe it. --Rebollo fr 19:12, 22 June 2006 (EDT)
The sites I've seen say "depth-of-field scale", there is almost no google hit for "depth-of-field knob" except one of my camerapedia edits. I have replaced it by "depth-of-field scale" or "rotating depth-of-field scale" in the camera descriptions, let me know if it seems just as weird as before. --Rebollo fr 08:29, 23 June 2006 (EDT)
