Unpopularity

The article tells us:

optical shortcomings mean that they have never been very popular for general photography

I suggest that a hugely more important reason for this lack of popularity is their very narrow angle of coverage. -- Hoarier 19:42, 10 February 2012 (PST)

?? Of course they have narrow angle of view, they are telephoto. The lack of popularity is in comparison with conventional telephoto lenses --DesmondW 09:51, 28 April 2012 (PDT)

Puts and Minolta

Erwin Puts testing a Minolta mirror lens commented "The end result does not deliver excellent image quality"

Is this a criticism of the particular lens, as compared with Leitz/Leica lenses of similar specification, or of mirror lenses in general? (And what's Puts doing, testing a Minolta lens within a book about Leica stuff?) -- Hoarier 03:47, 11 February 2012 (PST)

As part of the Leica / Minolta co-operation of the Eighties, a few Minolta lenses were offered with Leica mounts. Puts' comments apply to any mirror lens, which by their nature have low contrast due mainly to the secondary mirror blocking the central light path. --DesmondW 09:51, 28 April 2012 (PDT)
