The RICOHMITE 88E(リコーマイト88E, Rikōmaito88E) is an electric movie camera introduced by RICOH in 1961.

Description

In the early 1960s, the 8㎜ cinema was required to be compact, simple, and inexpensive in order to spread to general households in Japan, and this camera was the closest to these requirements in Japan at that time.

Before the release of the product, it was generally well-received by specialist magazines, which said, "With almost no protrusions, it looks like a child's lunch box, and is easy to handle, making it suitable for casual movie shooting[1].

Note

This camera is divided into two models according to the time of production.

  • Early model

The shutter release button and safety button are located under the viewfinder on the photographer's side.

  • Late model

The shutter release button is located on the lens side and is more like a lever than a button. The safety button is located on the right side of the camera, as seen from the photographer.
