The 1000S is likely the most stripped-down model ever offered by Cosina in their long series of stopdown metering SLRs accepting 42mm screw lenses. There is no self-timer, hot shoe, or film-reminder aids. A 55mm f/2.8 was the standard lens.

Pushing down the switch alongside the lens mount will stop down the aperture and activate the match-needle exposure meter—very conventional and unlike the two-stage shutter release used in many other Cosina M42 models. Shutter speeds from 1/1000 to 1 second are typical for the era, as are the dual X- and M- PC sockets. Only the respectable 1/125th second flash sync speed raises this model above the generic.
