The Corona 35R[1] is a viewfinder camera for 35mm film, made by the Japina Corporation of Japan.[2] It is quite a simple camera, with an 'I'-and-'B' shutter in the lens, and a fixed-focus C-Master 45mm f/8 lens, stopping down to f/22 with a sliding button on the left of the lens barrel (marked both with whole f-stops and with the words 'bright' and 'dull'). It has a reverse-galilean viewfinder. There is a false selenium-meter panel next to the VF on the front. In the camera body, the film guides and pressure plate are curved to allow for the curved field of focus of a simple lens. The camera has lever film advance, with a frame counter in a small sector window by the lever. There is a toothed wheel in a slot in the back to allow the counter to be adjusted, above the rewind-release button. Rewind is by a knob on the left of the top plate. The camera has a cold shoe and PC socket. The collar of the shutter release is threaded to accept an external ('Leica-type') cable release, and there is a tripod socket in the base.

Notes

  1. Named with a capital 'R' on the box, but with a lowercase one in the name impressed in the top plate.
  2. The listing of the camera in the Science Museum Collection in Bradford attributes it to KSK, but the box shown here is clearly marked. It seems very likely that the attribution is a mistake; a KSK logo appears on the Corona subminiature cameras, but there is no reason to think the two cameras are related.
