Distributor American Camera & Photo Supply was founded in 1944 by Benjamin Klitzky in Chicago, USA,[1] originally as a wholesaler. American Camera & Photo filed for a trademark on the brand Prinz (enclosed in a crown logo) in 1964.[2] The circa 1960 company address was 212 W. Hubbard, Chicago.[3]

Later under the shortened company name Amcam, trademarks were filed in 1977 on Rexatar and Rexagon, specifically for use on camera lenses.[2]

The Prinz logo simplified over time and eventually Prinz replaced Amcam as the company name. Prinz offered a full line of lenses, filters, extension tubes, etc. (even hippie straps) sourced from Far East suppliers.

As of 2023 "Prinz" is perhaps only used on photo frames, albums, and related products.
