Welcome

Thank you for writing about the Mamiya. Please stick around and write more! -- Hoary 09:14, 26 October 2007 (EDT)

adding to google group chat

Forgot to reply, yes i'd like to be added to the google group you linked to in my talk page. --Morinaka 07:23, 24 March 2011 (PDT)

List of "good" wiki pages

I started a page to list "model" Camera-wiki articles, and I'd like anyone who stumbles across a really nice, complete, well-illustrated article to add it to that page. We may be able to use this a source for rotating "recommended" articles on our Main Page. Thanks! --Vox 11:32, 24 March 2011 (PDT)

Lenses?

Are we adding lens pages as well, particularly for rare items? -- Rvolpe 17:48, 15 April 2011 (PDT)

Some lens pages exist already, but I don't see a lot of reason to write up the bulk of typical lenses. I'd want to prioritize the more unusual & historically significant ones: Voigtländer Zoomar, Zeiss "Olympic" Sonnar 180mm, Vivitar solid Catadioptric lenses, Canon "dream" f/0.95 …you get the picture. --Vox 18:13, 15 April 2011 (PDT)

Thank You

Hey man, thanks for re-directing me to here. I'll get on transfering all the Voiglander info I put up over at that other place. -Ryan

byline

image_by=

I forget which exactly atm but I knowing a few peoples real name but it is not listed on flickr, so should we use the real name? I also recall a few people with multiple flickr account usernames... with diff byline on cw, but I know it same person. shhh even I have multiple flickr user account name...Tkmedia 21:48, 23 July 2011 (PDT)

Yeah, there are a few situations which don't fit into our system very neatly. Not too many I hope. Some of what is credited to Category:Image by Voxphoto is actually hosted in the Camerawiki account; so you see I added an additional link to the Category:Image by Voxphoto page. However, the two account IDs means the "images added to the Camera-wiki.org photo pool" hotlink is incomplete; it only includes one account. I'm not sure how to fix that.
A couple of times, I have Flickrmailed people asking how they would like their credit to appear—particularly if it seems like they will have a lot of photos appearing in the wiki. Usually I assume that if they leave their real name off Flickr, they prefer it that way. But really, I'd just say "pick something sensible and be consistent." I always check this category list to make sure their credit hasn't appeared in some other form already. I try to catch examples where the person has been credited under different names and change image_by= credits to the one already used on the majority of pages. If you come across cases like this, feel free to edit the page where the "wrong" name appears so the image-by link works correctly. --Vox 06:59, 24 July 2011 (PDT)

Checking Flickr Links

Going back to 8,925 for a re-check.

How are you dealing with auto account creation spam?

We are getting hammered by it at WikiIndex.org. Best, MarkDilley

Steve installed some kind of Captcha add-on for account creation; but we still get a dozen bogus accounts created a week. A couple of the admins leave greetings on the talk pages of new accounts and if there's no contribs or answer after a few days we block the account. Since accounts can't be truly deleted in MediaWiki, Steve comes along later and merges the dead accounts into one single account, "Spammer." --Vox 16:07, 15 November 2011 (PST)
