Welcome to Camera-Wiki.org!

Thanks for creating an account here on Camera-Wiki.org! We appreciate your willingness to help us create the most comprehensive camera and photography encyclopedia on the web. Camera-Wiki.org is a big website, so we'd like to offer a few quick pointers to help get you started.

You also have a profile page that you can edit to tell us more about yourself if you'd like. It's purely optional but it's always nice to get to know another camera lover.

This website uses software called Mediawiki that's also used by WikiPedia. If you already know how to use and edit WikiPedia, you'll feel right at home here. If not, we have special page where you can learn to edit, called the Sandbox. It's a place where you try things out and experiment with no worries of breaking anything.

Hi! I'm responding to your post on Rebollo_fr's Talk page; although he did a great deal of work on the wiki, he's not very active here now. Thanks for your interest in Camera-wiki! It looks like you already know the basics of how to write in the wiki, add links etc.; I see our bot Botscura has added some links to useful Help pages above if you need any more advice about that.

Regarding your scans; we don't host any images in the wiki itself; the vast majority of them are links from Flickr (just a few from other sites, I think). Many of the photographs are taken by wiki editors themselves; others are used if they're suitably licensed under the Creative Commons system, or when we have specific permission to use them (we take this as implied when someone adds the picture to the Camera-wiki pool in Flickr). The pictures in the pool include quite a few scanned advertisements. I think uploads to Flickr need to be JPG files.

Copyright is worth considering, though. If your scans are to be considered Japanese, the relevant image-rights category is Camera-wiki.org:Japanese document in public domain, after 1946; the text of that page is a little out of date; it says 1958, but documents need to be fifty years old, so as late as 1963 is ok now. However, we'd need to be confident of that date; you say you assume they're from the early '60s, and I don't think that's good enough without some evidence. Also, we don't add every available image to the articles; it's supposed to be an encyclopaedia. If you think the adverts are useful or interesting additions to a wiki article, by all means go ahead and add them.
