The Taron 35 III ('3'), also known as Taron MX, is a 35mm rangefinder introduced in 1958 by the Japanese company Nippon Kōsokki, featuring:
- Rangefinder-coupled Taronar F.C. 45mm/f1.9 or Taronar C 45mm/f2.8 lens, both with 10-bladed aperture.
- Copal MXV shutter with M and X flash sync.
- Shutter speeds: B, 1, 1/2, 1/5, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/250, 1/500sec.
There is an often seen confusion about the name of this camera. It is usually designated as Taron MX, this seems to be due to the marking "MX" beside the flash socket (M & X sync).
The Taron III chassis was developed into the Taron VR and finally into the simplified, down-featured Taron PR.
One of the interesting features of the Taron III is the pull-up folding rewind crank. When deployed, the lever seems twice as long as a usual one.
Variations
The Robin 19 rebranded version with Taronar F.C. 45mm/f1.9 (8-bladed aperture), featured the Citizen MV shutter, running gear and levers from the later Taron VR. Internally, the rangefinder prism and rewind shaft mechanisms are different from those in the Taron III.
