Tōyō Kōki K.K. (東洋光機㈱) or Tōyō Kōki Seizō K.K. (東洋光機製造㈱) was a Japanese company of the late 1930s and ealry 1940s, which made the Peacock 3×4cm cameras.[1] The company was based in Tokyo, Yodobashi.[2]
It seems that Tōyō Kōki was merged into Oriental Shashin Kōgyō (a Japanese film maker) in 1944, becoming its optical instruments branch (光機部門), that was dissolved in 1945.[3] The two companies were perhaps already related at an earlier date, as indicated by the common use of the Peacock trademark.
Camera list
Shutter list
- Peacock (T, B, 10–100) on the Peacock III[4]
- Orient A (T, B, 1–200, self-timer) on the Semi Clover, Clover-Six, Semi Kreis, Semi Kinka and Elmoflex[5]
Notes
- ↑ Attribution of the Peacock to Tōyō Kōki: "Kokusan shashinki no genjōchōsa" ("Inquiry into Japanese cameras"), item 157, and Kokusan kamera no rekishi, p. 339. Sugiyama, items 3044 and 4060, calls the company "Toyo Optical Works", a translation attempt. McKeown says that the maker was "Toyo Kogaku", probably mistakenly translating back the name given in Sugiyama. The name Tōyō Kōki Seizō is reported in the address list of the 1943 inquiry.
- ↑ Its address in 1943 was Tōkyō-to Yodobashi-ku Nishi-Ochiai 2–531 (東京都淀橋区西落合2–531). Source: "Kokusan shashinki no genjōchōsa" ("Inquiry into Japanese cameras"), listing the Japanese camera production as of April 1943.
- ↑ See this page at Kan's Room. Kokusan kamera no rekishi, p. 339, also says that the two companies are related.
- ↑ "Kokusan shashinki no genjōchōsa" ("Inquiry into Japanese cameras"), shutter item 18-U-11.
- ↑ "Kokusan shashinki no genjōchōsa" ("Inquiry into Japanese cameras"), shutter item 18-P-23. The document only gives the short form 東洋, as was the case for the Peacock shutter.
