In the photo business Sony is one of the newer players. It entered the photography market in the age of digital photography. But having been active in the video business, it started in the market with more experience of electronic cameras than some of the traditional camera makers. Sony relies very much on the German optics designer Carl Zeiss. In the summer of 2006 Sony will release its first SLR cameras for Minolta's alpha-mount-lenses, the Sony alpha SLRs. On the 6th of June 2006 the first one of these DSLRs has been introduced officially. These cameras will succeed Konica Minolta's digital SLR series alpha/Maxxum/Dynax.
