Silicon (Si) — refers to the use of this element to make semiconductors (photodiodes) used in exposure meters

Photodiodes are semi-conductor devices used for the detection of light in the visible, UV and IR spectrum. They offer high sensitivity, small size and lowr power consumption that CdS cells and have replaced such cells since the 1980s.
