Silicon (Si) — refers to the use of this element to make semiconductors (photodiodes) used in exposure meters

Photodiodes are semi-conductor devices used for the detection of light in the visible, UV and IR spectrum. In order to make the response similar to that of film, or digital sensors a blue filter is used (Silicon Blue Cells or 'SBC').

These sensors offer higher sensitivity, small size and lower power consumption that CdS cells and have replaced such cells since the 1980s.
