1957-1970 This model has been sold initially as a '''"Brockway S"''' branded meter in the Norwood Director line. Often referred to a Model S or Type S. The Sekonic Studio S unit has a black face compared to the Brockway version with a silver face. Both meters bottom plates are printed with Sekonic Studio S and Made in Japan. The Sekonic version has the ''L-28'' model number while the US Brockway version ''Model S''. The Brockway branding was later dropped entirely after a merger. There are many different minor variations and branding of "Studio S" meters, some with Polaroid and LVS scales some without.

The Sekonic Studio L-28 is a series of hand held light meter. The particular model designs is directly related to the Director line of meters originally created by Donald W. Norwood and cinematographer Karl Freund. This model was replaced in 1976, and the model number was changed to L-398.

L-28A Studio S

1957-1970 This model has been sold initially as a "Brockway S" branded meter in the Norwood Director line. Often referred to a Model S or Type S. The Sekonic Studio S unit has a black face compared to the Brockway version with a silver face. Both meters bottom plates are printed with Sekonic Studio S and Made in Japan. The Sekonic version has the L-28 model number while the US Brockway version Model S. The Brockway branding was later dropped entirely after a merger. There are many different minor variations and branding of "Studio S" meters, some with Polaroid and LVS scales some without.

The more common versions of the meter has the modern shutter speed printed with 1/4, 1/8, 1/15, 1/30, 1/60, 1/125, 1/250, 1/500 and 1/1000. There are additional line marks for 1/5, 1/10, 1/25, 1/50, 1/100, 1/200, 1/400, 1/800 and 1/1200; that are more common on the previous models.

L-28A2 Studio S2

1970-1976 This unit replaced the L-28A. Sekonic calls this minor revision the L-28A2, but many examples show the model number unchanged from L-28A. To identify the A2 model the aperture scale increases from f45 to f90.
