SL System (where SL stands for Schnell Lade or Speed Loading) was an eastern block derivative of the Agfa Rapid system. SL System used usual 35 mm perforated film loaded as a 60 cm long piece in plastic cassette without a spool. This allowed taking twelwe 24x36 mm, eighteen 24x24 mm or twenty four 18x24 mm pictures on one film, what was considered sufficient for daily use of an average amateur. The cameras of the SL System were much easier and faster to load than usual 35 mm cameras, as there was no need to fix the film at the take-up spool - as the whole system was oriented for creating user friendly and easy to use popular compact cameras for masses.

Most of the SL cameras used a two cassette system, where film was transported from its original cassette into a second, empty cassette, with no need for a rewind. Some cameras however, as the Certo SL 100, used a one cassette only and the film needed to be rewound.
