The *istDS was the successor to the Pentax *ist D, the first DSLR made by Pentax. With TTL flash metering, choice in AF-C/AF-S, matrix metering, pentaprism viewfinder, and use of AA batteries this is a robust entry-level DSLR that offers a lot of basics in a relatively compact body.
While this camera predates modern features like sensor dust removal and sensor anti-shake, the *istDS supports every K-mount lenses lens ever made, including those made by some 50 third-party vendors. This is a shared feature with the *istD and every other DSLR made by Pentax.
This is the camera that Mike Johnston called the 'digital Pentax K1000'; a basic but competent shooter.
