Released in 2002, the Nikon D100 filled the same "prosumer" niche as Canon's D60 and Fuji's S2 Pro. The naming of the D100 was meant to be the digital version of the F100, but body size closely resembles the F80. It has a 6.1 megapixel sensor and the usual set of features you'd expect to find on a dSLR that costs so much. It has recently become redundant, in the opinion of many, because of the introduction of the D70 in 2005, which, although costing less, offers many of the same features and even improves on a couple (1/500 flash sync speed for example). The D100 was succeeded by the D200 in 2005.
