The New Gold is a Japanese 4.5×6 folding camera, sold and perhaps made by Gold Camera Kōgyōsho in 1944.[1]
Description
The New Gold is an Ikonta copy. There is a folding optical finder in the middle of the top plate, a body release to the left and the folding bed release button on the right (as seen by the photographer holding the camera horizontally). The advance knob or advance key is at the bottom right. The back is hinged to the left.
Advertisements
The New Gold was advertised in the May 1944 issue of Nihon Shashin[2] and in the June 21, 1944 issue of Asahi Graph.[3] Two variants were listed, both with a T, B, 5–200 shutter:
It seems that the camera was sold by mail order, as were other products sold by Gold Camera Kōgyōsho: in the advertisements the sum of ¥0.50 is written together with the logo of the Japan Post, probably to indicate the postage fees.
