The Narciss is an SLR for 16mm film, made between c.1961 and c.1965 by KMZ. It is styled very much like a 35mm SLR, with an eye-level pentaprism viewfinder. The viewfinder is interchangeable, but no other finders were produced. All the body controls are on the top plate apart from the film rewind: on the left, a film-speed reminder and PC sockets for X- and M- flash synchronisation, on the right the shutter speed dial, shutter release and film advance lever, with a frame counter in a window in front of the lever. The name is engraved in red above the lens, usually in Cyrillic - "Нарцисс", but sometimes "NARCISS" in roman capitals (for export models); the spelling "Narziss" is also seen on the instruction manual. Most examples have a chrome top and black-covered body, but some have cream covering.
The film was supplied in (up to) 24-exposure cassettes, into which it is rewound after use, in the same way as 35mm film. The image frame is 14x21mm[1].
The standard lens is an Industar-60 (Cyrillic: Индустар) or VEGA-M-1 (ВЕГА) 35mm f/2.8 lens, mounted with a 24mm thread; adaptors were available to fit Zenit 39mm thread lenses. The focal plane shutter has speeds 1/2-1/500s, plus 'B', with X- (up to 1/60) and M- flash sync. The shutter is cocked by the winding lever, which also returns the mirror to the viewing position.
