MAPED is a company based in Annecy, in the Haute-Savoie departement of France, set up in 1947. The firm is known to have made a metal-bodied box camera, the Précidès, in the early 1950s, as well as a simple microscope, and may have designed a plastic box camera, the Top, made in about 1960 by another company. MAPED's main business is design and manufacture of school and office supplies including small mechanical devices such as staplers and hole-punches; the firm's first product was a brass pair of compasses.[1]
